Bassocantante
Opera Shop

Vissi d’arte, vissi d’amore . . .

I am Basso Cantante, literally a Singing Bass, generally classified as a lyric bass or bass-baritone. I sing opera, oratorio and art songs. As a bass, I usually get the character roles, either comic or villain, both of which I relish. You can find out a little more about me, see a couple of pictures and hear a couple of examples of my singing (from Bach’s Magnificat and Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore) by clicking the “About Me” button below.

The singers’ pages contain a collection of information on opera singers who were active in the first half of the twentieth century, along with examples of their singing, taken primarily from recordings in my collection of 78 rpm records.

To learn a bit about some unusual singers (or unusual recordings), visit the Curiosity Shop.

Visit the Gossip Corner to read some of the old tales of opera glitches and fiascoes.

Now, please wander around my pages. I hope you enjoy them. And don’t forget to visit Choral Art, Concert Hall and Flapper!
