These are recordings of singers on whom I have not done any research, but whose
performances I wanted to make available. Some were well-known, others obscure.
This photo is of the Gramophone Company’s recording studio in Paris circa
1905. When recording, the singer would, of course, face the horn. Notice that the piano is on a high platform — as is the pianist (I would be terrified!). The piano likely
had its hammers severely filed in order to be heard.
